Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, has announced his intention to return to school. This comes years after he said he dropped out of Kwara State Polytechnic. He still wants to finish his education, even with his success in music.
Portable shared this news in a preview of the Honest Brunch Podcast, set to air on YouTube on Monday. He talked about his school experience, the difficulties with school fees, and his rise to fame.
He revealed that financial struggles made it hard for him to stay in school. He remembered selling sachet water to help pay his fees before finally dropping out when he could not afford it anymore.
“I go still finish school as I dey like this. I no finish school,” he said.
Portable explained that he had no one to help him with his education, which made it tough to continue his studies.
“I no see anybody to sponsor me again. The school fees is high. I go still finish school as I dey like this,” he added.
He mentioned that he got admission into Kwara Poly through the school's indigene quota and studied Business Administration before leaving the program.
He said dropping out of school is one of his biggest regrets.
“Na Kwara Poly pain me pass. I be student… Na indigene this thing I use enter. I studied Business Administration,” he said.
Portable also talked about how his life has changed, even without a degree. He now takes care of his family.
He said that he was once seen as the least academically talented among his siblings, but now he supports his father financially, while his sisters are also working.
“Person wey dem dey call olodo for my family na me still dey feed my papa now,” he said.
While he encourages young people to keep pursuing education, Portable believes that having a degree is not the only way to succeed. He emphasized that opportunities can come in various forms.
“It is not a must you finish school before you get am. You fit go get am from outside and come back finish school. I go still finish school as I dey like this,” Portable said.
However, PUNCH Online cannot confirm the admission status of Portable as he mentioned in the podcast.
