The National Working Committee of the Peoples Redemption Party has named Donald Duke, a former Governor of Cross River, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Duke’s selection followed the review of the recent primaries by the Primaries Appeal Committee. The committee's report was approved by the NWC.
Muhammed Ishaq, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, shared this news on Saturday in Abuja. He added that the NWC also confirmed four other election results, which include governorship, senate, House of Representatives, and state Houses of Assembly.
Ishaq mentioned that all other candidates are cleared to run in the 2027 general elections, except for the Tarauni Federal Constituency in Kano. The primary election there has been canceled.
He noted that the party will present a total of 420 candidates for all elective positions in next year’s elections.
"In line with our commitment to active participation in the electoral process, the PRP is proud to field a total of 420 candidates across all positions in the 2027 general elections," he stated.
Ishaq emphasized the party's dedication to internal democracy and service. He promised to offer credible and transformative leadership for the country.
Back in May, the PRP screened and cleared three presidential aspirants ahead of its presidential primaries set for Monday, May 25. This is part of their preparations for the upcoming general elections.
The cleared aspirants include Donald Duke, noted economist Dr Nnaoke Ufere from Abia State, and former African Action Congress presidential candidate Yakubu Mohammed Kingsley from Edo State.
