A heavy rain and strong winds have led to the deaths of two people in the Bara community, Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State. The victims are 50-year-old Aisha Sagir and her four-year-old granddaughter, Aisha Shuaibu. They lived in Unguwar Katsinawa in Bara Village.

The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed this tragic news in a statement released on Wednesday. The statement was by SP Nafiu Habib, the police spokesperson. The incident took place on Tuesday when heavy rain hit the area along with a severe windstorm.

"Preliminary reports indicate that on June 10, 2026, Kirfi Local Government Area experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. The severe weather incident resulted in the tragic loss of Aisha Sagir, 50-year-old, and her granddaughter, Aisha Shuaibu, 4-year-old, both of Unguwar Katsinawa, Bara Village, Kirfi LGA," the statement read.

Besides the loss of lives, the rainstorm caused significant destruction. Many houses, livestock, and other valuables were lost, with damages estimated in millions of naira. The police spokesperson said that officers from the Kirfi Divisional Police Headquarters went to the affected area to assess the damage and keep the peace.

Habib shared that the state’s police commissioner, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, sent his condolences to the government and people of Kirfi Local Government Area following this disaster. He also expressed his sympathy to the grieving family and prayed for the deceased.

"The Commissioner of Police expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family and the entire people of Kirfi LGA. He prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest and give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss," the statement added.

The police command assured residents that they will continue to work with relevant agencies to support disaster response efforts. They also promised to protect lives and property throughout the state.

Lastly, the police urged the public to stay alert during the rainy season. They advised people to report any emergencies to security agencies for quick help.
