Atletico Madrid has turned down a €150 million offer from their city rivals Real Madrid for Argentine forward Julián Álvarez. This news came from a post on Real Madrid’s website on Tuesday.
The offer was made after a meeting of Real Madrid’s board. The club is looking for ways to boost their attack with top talent.
But Atletico quickly rejected the bid. They pointed out how important Álvarez is to their plans and said they would only think about a deal if it meets his release clause.
The post stated, “Real Madrid announces that, following the meeting of the Board of Directors held today, it has made an offer of 150 million euros to Club Atlético de Madrid for the federative rights of the player Julián Álvarez.
“After reviewing and evaluating the offer, Club Atlético de Madrid has expressed its gratitude for the proposal, made within the framework of the good relations between both clubs, and has rejected it, referring to the player’s release clause.”
Álvarez has quickly become a key player since he joined Madrid. Atletico values him for his movement, pressing style, and ability to play in different attacking roles.
Officials at the club see him as a vital part of their future plans, not just a player to sell.
This rejection also shows how sensitive transfers are between the two Madrid clubs. They rarely do business because of their strong rivalry.
PUNCH Online reported that Real Madrid's President Florentino Pérez said he would approve the biggest transfer fee in the club's history if he is re-elected on Sunday. He hinted at a big signing as part of a renewed “Galácticos” plan.
