Super Eagles striker, Rafiu Durosinmi, has set a target of at least 20 goals this season. He wants to make a mark in the Belgian Pro League with Genk after a great start.
The 23-year-old is also aiming for the league’s Golden Boot. He shared his goals in an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws.
“At least 20 goals this season would be fantastic,” he said.
Durosinmi has already scored five goals in his first six league games. He joined Genk from Pisa for €10.5 million, which is a record fee for the club. His latest goal came in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Gent. Three of his goals were headers, while the other two were penalties.
This is a big change from his time at Pisa. There, he only scored once in 12 Serie A games in the second half of the 2025/26 season.
After the Gent game, he talked about how belief helped him start strong.
“I am happy to have been voted Man of The Match again. It also feels good to be the top scorer at the moment. In football, anything is possible, but you have to believe in it,” he said.
He added that winning the top scorer title has been a long-time dream. “I want to score, I want to finish high in the standings, and I also want to go for the top scorer title. I have always dreamed of that,” he said.
Paul Onuachu, another Super Eagles striker and former Genk player, helped him make the move.
“He wondered why I had chosen Pisa in January and was curious about the options I had now. When I mentioned Genk, he immediately said that it was the best step for me,” Durosinmi said.
“That really gave me the final push to choose this club. And to be honest: the club really is fantastic. I had expected that because of all the good stories, but it has exceeded my expectations.”
He praised head coach Jess Thorup. He said Genk is the first club where he settled down within a week.
Onuachu and Tolu Arokodare both won the Belgian Pro League Golden Boot at Genk before moving to the Premier League. This gives Durosinmi a Nigerian path to follow.
