Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho scored two goals to help Bursaspor beat Batman Petrolspor 2-1 on Saturday. This win moves Bursaspor to the top of the TFF 1. Lig.
Iheanacho scored the winning goal in the 85th minute, securing all three points for his team. Bursaspor has now won six and drawn one of their first eight league matches. They lead Kayserispor by three points, although Kayserispor has played one game less.
After this match, Iheanacho has 11 goals and two assists in eight league games since joining Bursaspor as a free agent from Celtic this summer. He has scored in every match, making it eight games in a row, which is his best run yet.
This scoring streak ties him with a club record. Former Bursaspor striker Fernandao also scored in eight straight league games during the 2014/15 Süper Lig season. His streak started against Kasımpaşa in November 2014 and ended against Gençlerbirliği in January 2015. Fernandao finished that season with 22 league goals.
Iheanacho scored against Manisa FK on September 7 and also netted against Esenler Erokspor before facing Batman Petrolspor. His next league match will give him a chance to break the club's record.
The Nigerian international won both the league and cup with Celtic before moving to Turkey.
Iheanacho has also been picked for Nigeria’s squad for a friendly match against Russia next month. This will be his first call-up to the Super Eagles in over a year. His last game for Nigeria was during the 2025 Unity Cup in London.
