Kelechi Iheanacho, a forward for the Super Eagles, believes Bursaspor can make their home ground a tough place for opponents this season. The Nigerian player praised the club’s lively supporters after starting well in Turkey, according to PUNCH sports extra.
The 29-year-old thinks the strong backing from Bursaspor’s large fan base can help the team as they aim to move up to the Turkish top league.
“It’s fantastic to play in front of one of the biggest fan groups in Türkiye. As long as we have their support behind us, we won’t easily lose matches in Bursa,” Iheanacho said, as reported by Fotomac.
Iheanacho has made a strong start in the 2026/27 Turkish 1. Lig. He has scored twice and provided an assist in his first two league games.
He made a mark on his Bursaspor debut by scoring and assisting in their 2-0 away win over Bodrum, showing what fans can expect from him.
His quick start has raised hopes for Bursaspor’s promotion campaign. The club wants to return to the Turkish top flight after falling to the second division.
Iheanacho joined Bursaspor as a free agent in July after leaving Scottish champions Celtic. Last season at Celtic, he scored nine goals despite facing injuries and helped the team win a domestic double.
The striker, who has played for Manchester City and Leicester City, was drawn to Bursaspor because of their goal to return to the Super Lig and play in European competitions.
“I was attracted by their project, that they wanted to climb up to the Super Lig and also play in Europe,” Iheanacho said after he moved to the club.
With two goals and an assist already, Iheanacho is expected to be a key player in Bursaspor’s push for promotion. If he continues to perform well, he may also boost his chances of returning to the Super Eagles for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September.
