Turkish Super Lig club Çaykur Rizespor is looking at Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi as a possible target. They want to boost their attack, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Rizespor is on the hunt for a new striker and has reportedly added the Nigerian international to their shortlist. The club also plans to strengthen other areas of the team.
Awoniyi moved to Forest from Union Berlin for €20.5 million in 2022. He has played over 100 games for the club in all competitions, scoring 23 goals.
Last season, Awoniyi struggled with injuries. He made 17 Premier League appearances, scored four goals, and got one assist. He played 493 minutes and started just three matches. He scored twice in Forest’s 3-1 win against Chelsea and added one goal in their 3-0 win over Tottenham.
Awoniyi’s ongoing injury issues have limited his time on the field since he arrived in England. He still has a contract with Forest that runs until June 2027.
Rizespor's interest comes as the Turkish club looks for attacking options, while also aiming to improve their full-back and midfield positions.
The interest from Rizespor might give Awoniyi a chance to leave the City Ground. But right now, there is no agreement or confirmed transfer fee.
The situation is still in the early stages, and Rizespor has not yet made a formal offer for the Nigerian striker.
