Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is feeling positive about his future at the club. With just one year left on his contract, he appreciates the support he has received since joining the team, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
This month, Awoniyi begins the last 12 months of his contract with Nottingham Forest. The Nigerian striker is looking ahead with optimism.
He joined the club from Union Berlin in June 2022 for a record fee. Since then, he has made over 100 appearances and scored 23 goals for Forest across all competitions.
Although he reached this milestone, the 28-year-old has faced ongoing injuries that affected his performance during key moments of the season.
As rumors about his future swirl, Awoniyi calls his time in England a dream come true. He wants to show Forest that their faith in him is well-placed.
"Four years in the Premier League has been a dream for the club and me," Awoniyi told SportsBoom.co.za.
"The club has shown faith in me when I was down, so we will see what happens next."
He added, "My family and I are settled here in Nottingham, a great city. Next season, we will be better."
Despite dealing with several injury issues since his arrival, he remains a key player in the squad. He hopes to make a bigger impact in the upcoming season.
Awoniyi also spoke about Forest's performance last season. He praised the teamwork of the players and coaching staff.
"At the end, it was an amazing season for us," he said.
"Looking at how far we went and looking at how we went about the season."
He continued, "Many people thought we might struggle, but we turned the negativity around. It was a good season for the club, the players, and everyone."
Awoniyi is expected to report for pre-season training with Forest later this summer. He aims to build on his contributions and help the club reach its goals in the 2026/27 season.
