Rofiat Imuran Set to Team Up with Alexia Putellas at London City

Super Falcons defender Rofiat Imuran might soon play alongside two-time Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas. Reports say the Barcelona star has agreed on personal terms with Women’s Super League side London City Lionesses, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

Putellas ended her 14-year journey with Barcelona at the close of the season. During her time at the club, she became one of the best players in women's football.

If the deal goes through, Imuran will be the second Super Falcons player to play with Putellas. Six-time CAF Women’s Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala was the first.

Oshoala and Putellas played together at Barcelona while Oshoala was there for five years.

Putellas has been linked with a move to London City for a few months now. Speculation about her future grew stronger just before Barcelona confirmed her departure. Though she could have stayed longer, she chose to look for new challenges.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Putellas wanted to join a club that would not be a direct rival to Barcelona. The report says she turned down interest from Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United. She also rejected offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Central America.

There were suggestions for her to move to the NWSL, but London City Lionesses have been seen as the leading option. The Guardian now says that the Spain international has agreed to personal terms with the English club.

If this transfer goes through, it would be a big win for London City. The club is owned by billionaire Michele Kang, who also owns Washington Spirit and Lyon. Last season was their first in the Women’s Super League, and they finished sixth in the standings.

Bringing Putellas into the squad while she is among the world’s top players would greatly boost the club's goals and improve its reputation before next season.
