Spanish midfielder Alexia Putellas has won the 2026 Women’s Ballon d’Or. She picked up the award for the third time at the ceremony in London on Monday.
Putellas, who plays for London City Lionesses, had previously won this important award in 2021 and 2022. Now, she is a three-time winner of the Ballon d’Or.
She ended Aitana Bonmatí’s three-year run as the award winner. Bonmatí took home the Women’s Ballon d’Or in 2023, 2024, and 2025. This year, she was not nominated for the prize.
Putellas was the captain of Barcelona during the 2025/26 season before moving to London City Lionesses in the summer. She helped Barcelona win four trophies, including the Women’s Champions League, Liga F, the Spanish Super Cup, and the Copa de la Reina.
At 32 years old, she also played a key role in helping Spain win the Women’s Nations League. This success boosted her chances for the award.
