The Nigeria Taekwondo Federation has praised the Nigerian Navy team after they won the Most Disciplined Team award at the 14th Korean Ambassador Cup in Abuja.
NTF president Tayo Popoola praised the team's behaviour and sportsmanship during the competition at the Mo Arena.
"It was not a surprise that they got the award. They were everywhere, and they mixed with others and displayed a good spirit of sportsmanship. I salute the team and they should keep it up," Popoola said.
He highlighted that discipline is crucial in sports. The Navy team stood out for their fair play and positive interactions with other participants.
In a related event, the World Taekwondo Demonstration Team, Kukkiwon, entertained spectators with impressive kicks, strong strikes, and acrobatic moves.
The South Korean team's performance received cheers from fans and gave young Nigerian athletes a chance to see the precision and discipline that come with top-level taekwondo.
South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Jeong Yo-an, also encouraged young Nigerians to embrace discipline, courage, perseverance, and self-belief in chasing their goals.
Speaking in Abuja on Sunday, Jeong said taekwondo teaches more than just physical skills. It helps young people build confidence and face challenges.
He urged young athletes to stay committed to their dreams, no matter the competition outcomes. He added that the values from taekwondo could help them grow personally and contribute to society.
The 14th Korean Ambassador Cup was organised by the NTF to promote taekwondo in Nigeria through competitions and cultural exchanges.
