Samson Adamu has been officially named the General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). He is the first Nigerian to hold this position in the organization’s 70-year history.

The announcement came on Thursday. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) congratulated Mr Adamu on his new role.

Emmanuel Ikpeme, the acting general secretary of the NFF, called this news good for Nigerian football. He also expressed trust in Mr Adamu’s ability to excel in this position.

“This is, indeed, very good news. I am so happy for Samson Adamu on his confirmation, and I know he is going to make Nigeria and Africa proud,” Mr Ikpeme said.

“He is a highly knowledgeable individual who has never stopped improving himself, and he is well-rounded in the business of football administration.”

Mr Ikpeme mentioned that the NFF was happy about the appointment. He promised that the federation would support Mr Adamu in his new role.

“The NFF is delighted with this appointment, and we will give him all the necessary support as a Member Association under CAF. We wish him tremendous success in the job,” he said.

Mr Adamu started with CAF, which is based in Cairo, Egypt, as the director of competitions. Later, he served as the director of tournaments and events.

On 29 March, he took over as acting general secretary after Veron Mosengo-Omba, a Swiss-Congolese football administrator, stepped down.

His confirmation as the permanent General Secretary is seen as a significant boost for Nigeria’s role in African football administration.
