Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, surprised many at Lagos Fashion Week by walking the runway in a collection by Nigerian designer Ugo Monye.
The governor joined the models on the runway on Saturday. His presence brought loud cheers from the crowd as they recognized him among the participants.
Sanwo-Olu’s walk showed his support for Lagos' creative industry, especially the fashion sector. This sector plays a big part in the state’s culture and entertainment.
After his runway appearance, the governor took to his X handle to share his thoughts. He said his participation was a break from his usual governance duties.
“I stepped away from the usual business of governance to walk the runway for the incredibly talented Ugo Monye at Lagos Fashion Week. Lagos continues to grow as a home for fashion, creativity and culture and I am always happy to support the people driving this growth,” he wrote.
Lagos Fashion Week happens every year and started in 2011 by Omoyemi Akerele. It shows off Nigerian and other African designers, giving them a chance to present their collections to buyers, media, and fashion lovers.
The event has become a key part of Africa’s fashion calendar. It attracts attention from both local and international audiences while promoting fashion across the continent.
