Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, surprised everyone at Lagos Fashion Week by walking the runway. He wore a collection by Nigerian designer Ugo Monye.
The governor joined the models on Saturday. The crowd cheered loudly when they recognized him among the participants.
Sanwo-Olu’s walk showed he supports Lagos’ creative industry, especially fashion. This industry adds to the state’s cultural identity and entertainment.
After the runway, the governor shared his experience on X. He said it was a break from his regular duties.
“I stepped away from the usual business of governance to walk the runway for the incredibly talented Ugo Monye at Lagos Fashion Week. Lagos continues to grow as a home for fashion, creativity and culture and I am always happy to support the people driving this growth,” he wrote.
Lagos Fashion Week is an annual event that lasts several days. It started in 2011 and was founded by Omoyemi Akerele. The event showcases Nigerian and other African designers.
It gives them a platform to present their collections to buyers, media, and fashion lovers. Over the years, this event has become a key part of Africa’s fashion calendar.
It attracts attention from both local and international audiences. It also promotes the fashion industry across the continent.
