Senator's Shocking Call to Violence Ahead of Osun Election

A Senator from Osun has caused a stir by supposedly urging his supporters to kill members of the Accord Party before Saturday's governorship election.

The senator is from the All Progressives Congress. He made these comments in a video shared by popular Afrobeat singer David Adeleke, known as Davido.

Davido posted the video on social media and called the lawmaker a sitting senator. He also provided an English translation of what the senator said.

The translation shared by Davido states that the senator said, “From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too.

“This is a Federal Government election. On election day, even if they come with voter cards, we won’t allow them to vote.”

In the video, the senator spoke in Yoruba while addressing his supporters about the Accord Party and the upcoming election.

In another part of his speech, the senator reportedly said, “What kind of life is that? If we hear anything about Accord in Ilesa here, record me and go and tell them.

“When we tell them, the cap they are putting on is a bad one, yellow one.

“So, we have come to tell you now, from now till the election day, if we see them, kill them o.”

These comments come just days before voters in Osun State will go to the polls to choose a governor. Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke is seeking re-election under the Accord Party.

If these remarks are accurately translated and presented in context, they could raise serious worries about political violence and intimidation in the state. Rival political groups have been accusing each other of aggression as the election approaches.

This situation also arises during a time when security agencies, political parties, and other election stakeholders have repeatedly asked supporters to avoid violence and ensure a peaceful voting process.
