Seven players from the Nigeria Premier Football League are in Nigeria’s 23-man squad for the Olympic Eagles. They will play against the Democratic Republic of Congo in the qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games.
These players were chosen from 24 league players who took part in a two-week training camp in Ikenne. The seven selected players are Aderemi Adeoye, Atata Michael, Clinton Andy, Muiz Adeleke, Odinaka Alfred, Ochobi Elias, and Sugau Aliyu.
The other 17 players were released on Saturday morning to return to their clubs for this weekend’s league games.
The Olympic Eagles will play the first leg at TP Mazembe Stadium in Lubumbashi on Friday, November 13. This match will be behind closed doors due to security concerns. The second leg will take place at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Tuesday, November 17.
The team recently beat Grassrunners FC 3-1 in a friendly match on Friday. They plan to leave for DR Congo on Monday. The winner of this two-legged match will face either Burkina Faso or Sierra Leone in the next round.
