Shettima is back in Nigeria after UNGA 81 trip

Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Nigeria. He represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, USA.

Shettima left Abuja on September 20. He was given the task by President Tinubu to lead Nigeria’s delegation at this important global event.

While there, VP Shettima delivered President Tinubu’s National Statement during the General Debate. Nigeria used this platform to push for reforms in the UN Security Council. The country called for permanent African representation, fairer global financing, better climate support, and stronger cooperation between countries.

He also joined the Third High-Level Roundtable of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group. Here, President Tinubu urged African nations to focus on processing, manufacturing, and adding value to their raw mineral exports.

At a high-level education financing event, which Nigeria co-hosted with Italy, Shettima stressed Nigeria’s commitment to education. He said education is vital for productivity, human capital, and national growth. He also backed the Global Partnership for Education’s $5 billion financing campaign.

The vice president met with Nigerians living abroad. He emphasized how their investments, skills, and connections can help Nigeria grow.

Shettima had other important meetings too. He met with the new leaders of the ECOWAS Commission and UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed.

During these meetings, Mr Shettima pushed Nigeria’s views on financing for development, regional integration, economic cooperation, technology, peace, and security. He also echoed President Tinubu’s call for a fairer and more representative global order.
