Vice President Kashim Shettima will be in Kwara State on Wednesday. He will witness Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's turbanning as Sardauna of Ilorin Emirate in the state capital.
The city is already alive with activities. There are billboards, banners, and many guests arriving at the airport and major roads into town.
The Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, will perform the turbaning ceremony at the palace at 1 p.m.
Governor AbdulRazaq will be the first person to hold this title. This title makes him the Defence Minister of Ilorin Emirate.
Vice President Shettima is expected to lead several dignitaries at the event. This includes state governors, ministers, and lawmakers from all over Nigeria.
Additionally, the Kwara State Government will launch two key projects during the event.
The Vice President will inaugurate the Kwara Garment Factory while he is in town. According to Ibraheem Abdullateef, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Communications, the factory can employ over 4000 people at full capacity. Currently, over 500 staff are working there for the official takeoff phase.
Mr Shettima will also open the multi-storey Revenue House of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS).
As the turbanning approaches, the Emir of Ilorinβs palace has received a facelift. The palace was renovated over the past week.
It is freshly painted and now displays banners from various community groups, political parties, and stakeholders.
Earlier in August 2024, the emir announced that he gave Mr AbdulRazaq the title. This was in recognition of his achievements as governor and his contributions to the growth of the Ilorin Emirate.
