The Anambra State Police have charged six people in the Gender-Based Violence Court in Awka. They face different charges including defilement, sexual assault, child abuse, assault, and illegal abortion involving minors.
In a statement on Thursday, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson, said the suspects were charged after investigations into their cases.
Ikenga mentioned, “One of the suspects is Chinedu Chiekwu, a man from Umuoli Village. He is charged with defiling an 11-year-old child on September 6, 2026.
“Another suspect is Sunday Anele, accused of sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl that allegedly led to her pregnancy.
“Ugochukwu Okereke was charged for allegedly luring a 13-year-old girl to a bush and sexually assaulting her.
“Ebuka Nwachukwu is also charged for luring a six-year-old girl into his room at Okpoko and sexually abusing her.
“The fifth suspect is Ogechi Ofoma, a woman from Awada, Obosi. She is accused of using a hot kitchen knife to hurt her five-year-old daughter, Oluebube Ofoma.
“The sixth suspect is Obianuju Okafor, a woman charged with illegally arranging an abortion for her 15-year-old daughter.”
Ikenga gave an update on a 36-year-old woman seen in a video engaging in sexual acts with her child. He said the police have investigated and sent the case to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal action.
“The suspect is in police custody, waiting for the next steps,” he said.
Meanwhile, CP Nnanna Ama, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra, promised to protect children and vulnerable people from abuse, exploitation, and violence.
Ama also assured that the police would treat victims with dignity and care during the investigation and legal process.
