Troops from the Joint Task Force North West, called Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 10 civilians in different operations in Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states.
On Thursday, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, shared the news on X. He said these operations are part of ongoing efforts to protect lives and secure communities in the North West.
On August 19, 2026, while patrolling in the Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, soldiers faced a terrorist ambush. The troops acted quickly and forced the terrorists to run away.
“During the encounter, five civilians were rescued and later reunited with their families,” the Joint Task Force reported. They also recovered two motorcycles that the fleeing terrorists left behind.
Earlier, on August 18, troops received intelligence about three kidnapped victims. They launched a search-and-rescue operation in the Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The operation was successful, and all three victims were rescued. They were then profiled and handed over to the local authorities.
On the same day, troops responded to reports of terrorist activities in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The quick action of the soldiers made the terrorists flee, leaving behind two captives.
The captives had gunshot wounds from their ordeal and were taken to a medical facility for urgent care. The Joint Task Force is still working to track down the fleeing terrorists.
The Theatre Command praised the soldiers for their quick response and commitment. They assured residents that they would keep up the pressure on terrorist groups in the area.
“Members of the public are encouraged to keep providing timely and credible information to security forces. This will support ongoing operations and help protect lives and property,” they added.
