Troops rescue 10 kidnapped victims in Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara

No fewer than 10 kidnapped people were saved by soldiers of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.

A statement from the Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said the victims were rescued in different operations across the three states.

Danja shared the dates of the operations in the statement. He said these actions are part of the ongoing work to protect lives and keep communities safe in the North West.

On Wednesday, troops on patrol in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State met a terrorist ambush. While responding to this ambush, the troops forced the terrorists to run away.

"During the encounter, five civilians were rescued and later reunited with their families," the Joint Task Force said. The statement also mentioned that two motorcycles left behind by the fleeing terrorists were recovered.

A search-and-rescue operation took place on Tuesday after receiving a tip-off about three kidnapped victims in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The three victims were rescued and later handed over to the right local authorities.

The statement continued to say that troops responded to reports of terrorist activities in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Tuesday. "The quick response of the troops made the terrorists flee the area, leaving behind two captives," the Joint Task Force said.

The rescued victims, who had gunshot wounds from their ordeal, were rushed to a medical facility for urgent care. The statement added that efforts are ongoing to track and deal with the fleeing terrorists.

The Theatre Command praised the troops for their alertness and quick actions. They assured residents that they will keep putting pressure on terrorist groups in the Joint Operations Area.

"We encourage the public to keep giving timely and reliable information to security forces. This will help ongoing operations and improve the safety of lives and property," the statement read.
