The Super Falcons kicked off their final training for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a solid 2-1 win over Senegal. The friendly match took place at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne on Friday. Asisat Oshoala and Toni Payne scored for Justine Madugu’s team, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

Nigeria was in charge from the start. They held possession well and pressed Senegal deep in their half during the first half.

Oshoala and Funmilayo Ijamilusi both had chances before the breakthrough came in the 32nd minute. The referee spotted a handball in the Senegal box and pointed to the penalty spot.

Oshoala stepped up and scored calmly, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way. The experienced forward wore wristbands that read “Save the teachers” and “Bring back our children,” adding a personal touch to her performance.

Just before half-time, Payne extended the lead. She finished low past the goalkeeper after being unmarked from a corner kick, with Shukurat Oladipo providing the assist.

Madugu gave Comfort Erhabor, the Portsmouth goalkeeper, her first senior debut in goal. Rasheedat Ajibade, Francisca Ordega, and Christy Ucheibe also played in a strong starting lineup that showed the depth of the defending champions.

Senegal came back stronger in the second half and tested Nigeria’s defense more often. The Super Falcons held their ground for most of the second half.

But in the 86th minute, a slip allowed Sokhna Nogaye to score with a long-range shot. This denied Erhabor a clean sheet on her debut and made the last moments of the match tense.

Nigeria managed to hold on for the win. This was Nigeria’s first win over Senegal since a 3-0 friendly win in 2018. The Super Falcons continue their good run as they prepare for the tournament.

Nigeria will enter WAFCON as the defending champions after winning their 10th continental title last year. They aim for an 11th title when the tournament kicks off in Morocco on July 26.

Madugu’s team has been drawn with Egypt, Malawi, and Zambia in the group stage.
