The Supreme Court of Nigeria is set to introduce a digital filing system and a case management platform. This is a significant move towards making justice better in the country.
The Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Kabir Akanbi, shared this news in a statement on Wednesday.
He mentioned that the Supreme Court Electronic Filing (E-Filing) System and the Nigeria Case Management System (NCMS) will be officially launched by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, on July 1.
The new systems aim to digitise important parts of how the court works, including how cases are filed and managed.
Mr Akanbi explained that these systems were created to make things better, more transparent, and easier for people to access justice. They will help the court manage cases more effectively.
“The E-Filing System and NCMS are meant to improve efficiency, transparency, and accessibility. They will also ensure justice is delivered on time by modernising how the Court files and manages cases,” he said.
The Supreme Court noted that this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to use technology in running the courts and to provide better services at the highest court in Nigeria.
This step comes as more courts in Nigeria are starting to use digital tools. The goal is to cut down on delays caused by manual processes and to improve how cases are tracked and records are managed.
While some courts in Nigeria have started using electronic filing, bringing it to the Supreme Court is expected to make things smoother at the top level of Nigeria’s justice system. It will also lessen the need for paper-based processes.
Mr Akanbi said they will provide more information about how these systems will work, including the rollout plan and guidelines, later.
In recent years, the Supreme Court has taken steps to improve how quickly and efficiently it handles cases. Technology is becoming a key part of these efforts.
