A teenage boy is in the hospital after a vehicle hit him while he was crossing the Onipanu Bus Rapid Transit corridor towards Fadeyi, Lagos State, on Wednesday.
Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, shared this information in a statement.
Oke-Osanyintolu said the boy suffered injuries to his head and legs in the hit-and-run accident.
The incident took place around 4:30 PM. The emergency response team got to the scene just two minutes later. They found the injured teenager needing urgent medical help.
The Cobra Team from the agency provided immediate care and took the boy to the Trauma Centre for more treatment.
Oke-Osanyintolu explained, "In the incident recorded at 4:30 PM along the Onipanu BRT corridor inward Fadeyi, the Cobra Team responded within two minutes, arriving at 4:32 PM to find a teenage boy who had been hit by a vehicle while crossing the expressway and was in urgent need of medical attention having sustained head and leg injuries in a hit-and-run."
He added, "Upholding the people-centric governance philosophy of the administration, the team provided immediate assistance and ensured the swift transportation of the victim to the Trauma Center for definitive medical care."
He also called on drivers to avoid reckless driving and speeding. He reminded pedestrians to use pedestrian bridges and designated crossing points.
