Three Arrested for Carjacking in Lagos, Guns Found

The Lagos State Police have arrested three suspects linked to armed robbery and carjacking in the Alakuko area.

The suspects are Faruk Rasheed, 20; Olamilekan Ademola, 28; and Abidemi Oluwawemo, 21. Police operatives caught them after receiving what they called “credible intelligence.”

The police said the suspects were involved in car snatching and robbing people of their belongings.

SP Abimbola Adebesi, the police spokesperson, shared this in a statement on Thursday. He added that the arrests are part of the police's ongoing efforts to fight armed robbery, carjacking, and other violent crimes in Lagos.

The statement explained, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects allegedly specialised in car snatching and robbing innocent citizens of their valuables.”

After the arrest, police searched the suspects and found three locally made guns and eight rounds of live ammunition.

The statement continued, “Two locally made pistols loaded with five cartridges and one locally made revolver pistol loaded with three rounds of 9mm live ammunition” were recovered.

Currently, the suspects are in police custody. The police are also trying to catch other members of this alleged group.

However, the police did not share details about specific carjackings or robberies connected to these suspects. They did not say how many vehicles were stolen or who the victims were.

It is also not clear when the suspects were arrested or if they have been charged in court.

In another update, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, promised to break down criminal networks and keep residents safe in the state.

Fatai emphasized that the command is dedicated to “dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety and security of residents across Lagos State.”

He also encouraged the public to report emergencies and any suspicious activities using the police emergency lines.
