Three people have lost their lives, and seven others are injured in two different road accidents along the Sagamu-Ikorodu Expressway and the Ota, Idiroko Road in Ogun State.

The accidents took place on Saturday at the Kam Steel area of the Sagamu, Ikorodu Expressway and the Agarawu, Winners area of the Ota, Idiroko Road.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, confirmed the incidents in a traffic update on Saturday.

Akinbiyi said the first accident happened at the Kam Steel area of the Sagamu, Ikorodu Highway. It left one woman dead and two other women injured.

This crash occurred around 4:10 PM when a patrol van came out from the Kam Steel access road onto the highway and hit a tricycle, causing it to turn over.

He stated, "The pick-up van came out of the Kam Steel Road into the highway and collided with the tricycle, which somersaulted as a result."

"Eight people were involved; one female adult died while two other female adults sustained varying degrees of injuries."

He mentioned that the injured individuals were taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, while the body of the deceased was also taken to the same hospital morgue.

In the second accident, Akinbiyi noted that two people, a man and a woman, died, and five others were injured at Agarawu, Winners area of the Ota, Idiroko Road.

This accident took place around 3:25 PM and involved a yellow Howo truck and a TVS tricycle.

Akinbiyi said the crash was due to brake failure, which made the truck driver lose control.

"According to the eyewitness account, the brake of the Howo truck failed, and the driver lost control and collided with the tricycle."

"Nine people were involved; two persons, including a male adult and a female adult, died while seven others were injured," he added.

He mentioned that the injured victims were taken to the hospital before rescue officials arrived.

Akinbiyi said one of the deceased was taken by her relatives, while the other body was sent to the General Hospital morgue in Ifo.

He also said that the quick response from TRACE operatives and other emergency services helped to clear traffic at both accident scenes.

"While TRACE, FRSC, and the Police sympathize with the families of those who died, we remind drivers to prioritize safety by servicing and maintaining their vehicles regularly to avoid such tragic incidents," he concluded.
