Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber has come back to London from the club’s pre-season training camp in Spain. He is working on recovering from a groin injury.
The Netherlands international traveled back for a planned part of his rehab. Club sources say this move is not a sign of any setback in his recovery.
As BBC Sport reported on Wednesday, Timber should return to Spain to join Mikel Arteta’s team once he finishes this stage of his recovery.
The 24-year-old has been dealing with a groin issue that kept him out of recent games. This injury came after he recovered from an ankle injury he got at the end of last season.
He managed to play in Arsenal’s Champions League final loss to Paris Saint-Germain. But the groin problem later made him miss international games with the Netherlands.
Timber had a strong season last year, making 30 Premier League appearances as Arsenal won the league title. He became the club’s first-choice right-back.
The defender has already bounced back from a serious injury since joining Arsenal from Ajax in July 2023 for an initial fee of £34 million. He missed most of his debut season due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
Arsenal will be hoping Timber gets back to full fitness before the new season starts. The Gunners are set to play Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 16. They will then begin their Premier League title defense against promoted Coventry City on August 21.
