The team behind the Tour D’Afrique 2026 has officially said that the seventh edition of the cycling journey was a success. The 30-person group finished a tough 1,110km ride across four West African nations and arrived back in Lagos.

The last part of the tour covered 145km from Cotonou in Benin Republic to Lagos. This marked the end of a seven-day adventure that took the cyclists through Nigeria, Benin Republic, Togo, and Ghana. The theme for this year was Ride Against Climate Change.

Out of the 30 people, 20 were professional cyclists. The other 10 included support staff, media, and logistics personnel.

The returning team received a warm welcome at the finish line from Lagos State’s new Deputy Governor, Princess Damilola Sonayan James. The committee said her presence showed the state government’s commitment to sports development, youth involvement, and climate action.

The cyclists praised Benin Republic as a highlight of the 2026 tour. They noted the friendly support from the public and the official police escort that guided them through the country.

The organising committee honored all 20 professional cyclists who completed the journey. They recognized the physical challenges the riders faced.

“You endured rain and sun, daylight and night-time stages, delays and extreme fatigue. You overcame every challenge. Today, you are part of history,” the committee mentioned in a statement.

The tour had support from Pocari Sweat as the official energy partner and ibis Styles Hotels of the Accor Group, which provided accommodation during the leg in Ghana. The ECOWAS Commission also supported the event. This initiative was organized by FT Cycle Care in partnership with the Cycling Federation of Nigeria and the Velo NG Community.
