One person, named AbdulRasaq Ahmed, died and seven others were injured when a truck crashed into a street campaign by the All Progressives Congress. This event was supporting Bola Oyebamiji, the party's candidate for the August 15 Osun governorship election. The accident took place in Ede on Wednesday.

The crash happened as the campaign group was getting close to the Oke Gada area of Ede.

Remi Omowaiye, the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji Campaign Committee, confirmed the news to PUNCH Online. He stated that the injured were receiving medical care at private hospitals in Ofatedo and Ede.

"One person was killed in the accident. Seven others were injured, but one out of the seven was critically injured," Omowaiye said.

An eyewitness, who asked to remain anonymous, called for an investigation into what happened. The witness claimed the truck driver ignored traffic rules set by officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps who were managing the traffic during the campaign.

"It was a sad incident which could have been avoided. The Federal Road Safety Corps had earlier instructed that vehicles should use one lane while APC members used the other lane.

"But the truck driver went through the lane we were walking on and crashed into the crowd. The boy was killed in the process, while many got injured and are receiving treatment at the hospital," the eyewitness said.

After visiting the family of the deceased, the APC governorship candidate's running mate, Benjamin Adereti, also called for a full investigation into the crash.

"We are still trying to find out why this happened. The way the accident occurred made it seem like the truck intentionally drove into our party members in Ede while we were campaigning.

"I urge the security agencies in Osun and Nigeria to thoroughly investigate the reasons behind this incident. If this was a deliberate move by Ademola Adeleke and the Accord Party to stop our campaign, I can assure them we are unstoppable.

"I sympathize with the family of AbdulRasaq Ahmed over this unfortunate incident. May God comfort the family. We all know the pain of losing a child," Adereti said.
