Police in Anambra State have arrested two men suspected of kidnapping a victim, stealing N7 million from his bank account, and fleeing with his Toyota Highlander SUV.
Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson for the state, shared this information in a statement on Thursday. He said the kidnappers held the victim captive for three days.
"During the period of captivity, the kidnappers allegedly withdrew a total sum of ₦7 million from the victim’s bank accounts before fleeing with his Toyota Highlander SUV," Mr Ikenga, who is a superintendent of police, explained.
Mr Ikenga did not reveal the victim’s name or the exact time and place of the kidnapping. He focused on the arrests made.
The police arrested the suspects, Victor Onwuka, also known as "Bugatti," and Chidiebere Madukaife, who is 30 years old, on 16 August in Akpukpokelemu Village, Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area.
Mr Ikenga noted that the victim was rescued during this operation. The state's Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) carried out the rescue after receiving a tip-off.
"During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime and were subsequently identified by the victim.
They are also helping the police with useful information to identify and arrest other members of the gang who are still on the run," he said.
