The Ogun State Police have arrested two suspects in Ijebu-Ode. They are linked to a kidnapping and murder case being investigated in the Okada area of Edo State.

The police shared this information in a statement on Saturday. The spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the arrests followed intelligence-led investigations by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

Babaseyi explained that the breakthrough happened after the Nigeria Forest Security Service caught two suspicious individuals in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode. This prompted the police to look into their activities.

The suspects are identified as Gafaru Adamu, 25, and Muhammed Sanni, 20. Babaseyi noted that initial findings showed the suspects were wanted in connection with the kidnapping and murder of two people in Edo State.

He added that information gathered indicated the suspects are part of a seven-man kidnapping group linked to the crime. During the search of the suspects, police found a police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones believed to be important to the investigation.

"Further intelligence gathered by the Command indicates that the suspects are alleged members of a seven-man kidnapping syndicate linked to the incident under investigation.

"During the course of the investigation, operatives recovered one pair of police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones from the suspects. The exhibits have been properly documented and taken into custody to aid further investigation," the statement said.

Babaseyi mentioned that since the alleged crimes happened in Edo State, the suspects and the recovered items will be sent to the Edo State Police for further investigation and possible prosecution.

"The alleged offences under investigation occurred outside Ogun State. Consequently, in line with established inter-state policing procedures and existing collaboration among State Police Commands, the suspects and all recovered exhibits will be transferred to the Edo State Police Command, which has primary jurisdiction over the matter," the command stated.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, praised the operatives involved in the investigation. He called the breakthrough a sign of good intelligence gathering and cooperation between states.

Ojajuni assured the public that the police will not allow Ogun State to be a safe place for criminals. He promised residents that there will be continued use of intelligence-led policing strategies to improve security.

He also encouraged the public to stay alert and provide useful information to security agencies to help fight crime.
