The likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich have racked up impressive points over the years. But going through an entire league season without losing is one of football’s biggest achievements.
As the 2026-27 season picks up speed, seven teams in three of Europe’s top leagues are still unbeaten. This raises hopes for an Invincibles season.
Interestingly, none of the unbeaten teams are from Ligue 1 or the Premier League. The remaining contenders come from Italy’s Serie A, Spain’s La Liga, and Germany’s Bundesliga.
Here, we take a look at the seven teams still aiming for an unbeaten league season and check their chances of making history, as reported by Planet Football on Sunday.
Inter
Current Serie A champions Inter are off to a great start in their title defense under Cristian Chivu. They have won six of their first seven league matches.
The Nerazzurri have been fun to watch, scoring 21 goals in their early games. But they have also conceded nine, showing there’s still room for improvement in defense.
Inter’s domestic success contrasts with a shaky start in Europe. Losses to Real Madrid and Club Brugge revealed some weaknesses, but a narrow win against Shakhtar Donetsk offered some hope.
Chivu’s team has the attacking talent and experience to keep pushing for the title, but they must tighten their defense to stay unbeaten in the league this season.
Roma
Roma last won Serie A in 2001-02, under Fabio Capello, when they claimed their third Scudetto.
Claudio Ranieri nearly ended the wait in 2009-10, coming close but finishing second to Jose Mourinho’s treble-winning Inter.
Now, Gian Piero Gasperini has a chance to bring another title challenge to the Italian capital.
He earned praise for his work at Atalanta, where he built an exciting, attacking team and led them to Europa League success. Yet, a Serie A title still eludes him.
Roma have started well this season, but dropping two-goal leads against Inter and Real Madrid has raised doubts about their ability to keep control under pressure.
Their unbeaten streak is a solid base, but they will need to be stronger defensively if they want to challenge for the Scudetto and keep their Invincibles dream alive.
Lazio
Lazio have been one of the early surprises this season with Gennaro Gattuso at the helm.
After a rough time with the national team, the former midfielder seems to have found a fresh chance to rebuild his reputation at club level.
Lazio won all their pre-season friendlies and have continued that form into the new season, winning six of their first seven Serie A matches.
Their highlight was a 3-0 away win against Juventus, showing they can compete with Italy’s top teams.
Keeping up that standard over a full season will be a big challenge, but Lazio have given their fans plenty of reasons to believe they could be one of the season's most exciting stories.
AC Milan
Ruben Amorim’s hiring at AC Milan offers another chance for a manager looking to rebuild after a tough time at Manchester United.
Milan have stayed unbeaten in the league, but three draws in their first seven matches show they still have work to do.
Their performances have shown promise, but they need to be more consistent to challenge for the Serie A title.
A disappointing 3-0 loss in the Europa League to Bournemouth also reminded everyone that Amorim’s side is still a work in progress.
Milan have the history and ambition to compete at the highest level. But staying unbeaten for the whole season means they need to turn those draws into wins and build consistency of real title contenders.
Barcelona
Barcelona are one of the most interesting teams aiming for an unbeaten domestic season.
Their perfect start in all competitions ended with a 4-2 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, but they still have a clean record at home.
The reigning Spanish champions have the attacking talent, skill, and experience to have an incredible league season under their current setup.
However, facing Real Madrid in El Clasico will be a big test for them. A good result there would boost their confidence and solidify their title chase.
Barcelona have shown they can dominate Spanish football, but going through a whole league season without a loss will need consistent excellence, especially against their biggest rivals and strongest opponents.
If they keep up their current domestic form, the Catalan club could be on track to break several historical records in 2026-27.
Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich’s place among the unbeaten teams is no surprise.
The Bundesliga champions are known for their dominance, and their early-season showings suggest they can still overwhelm teams.
There have been some signs of weakness, like a goalless draw with Schalke and another draw with Augsburg. But when they play well, their attacking is devastating.
Bayern scored seven goals against Union Berlin and six against RB Leipzig, showing the firepower Vincent Kompany has.
Their ability to overpower teams makes them strong candidates to keep their unbeaten league record. But they need to focus on defense when facing teams that can take advantage of their lapses.
With Kompany guiding the team, Bayern will be eager to maintain their domestic dominance and possibly achieve something that has eluded many great teams in European football.
Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund are still looking for the consistency needed to challenge Bayern Munich’s long reign in German football.
Their last Bundesliga title came under Jurgen Klopp in 2011-12, and fans have been hoping for another serious challenge since then.
Dortmund started the season strong, winning four games in a row. But back-to-back draws have slowed them down and allowed Bayern to pull ahead.
Even though they are unbeaten, those dropped points show the difference between not losing and winning a title.
Dortmund have the talent to challenge the Bundesliga’s top teams, but they need to find a way to turn draws into wins if they want to keep pace with Bayern.
Their unbeaten record is encouraging, but history shows that consistency throughout the season will determine if they can finally mount a real title challenge.
