The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Usman Kallamu, has won the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency by-election. This election took place on Saturday in Gombe State.
Umar Gurama from the Federal University of Kashere announced the result on Sunday. He was the returning officer for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The announcement happened at the Malam-Sidi collation centre in the Kwami Local Government Area.
Mr Gurama, who is a professor, stated that Mr Kallamu received 41,121 votes. He beat candidates from the Labour Party (LP), All Progressives Movement (APM), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NDP).
The LP candidate got 3,553 votes. The APM and NDP candidates received 872 and 707 votes, respectively.
“With his 41,121 votes, Kallamu secured the highest number of votes to emerge winner of the bye-election,” he said.
Mr Gurama reported that a total of 47,301 votes were cast in the election. Out of these, 46,551 were valid, while 750 votes were rejected.
This by-election was held to fill the vacant seat in the House of Representatives. The previous representative, Yaya Bauchi-Tongo, passed away.
Voting took place across 903 polling units in 31 Registration Areas. These areas include Gombe, Kwami, and Funakaye Local Government Areas.
