Why Davido Chooses a Smaller Circle Now

Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has shared why he has cut down the number of people around him. He said this change comes from his new lifestyle, family duties and a wish to create a more productive space.

The singer explained that in the past, he moved with a large group. But now, especially after getting married, he prefers a smaller circle, focusing more on his family and career.

Davido spoke about this in an interview with Vibe Magazine on Thursday. He was discussing the creative process for his upcoming album. He noted that he can no longer have many people around him like he did earlier in his career.

"Now I live with the kids and my wife. I can’t have 100 people in my house like before," he said.

Despite reducing his entourage, Davido made it clear that he hasn't forgotten his friends. He continues to support those around him by helping them start businesses and create income streams.

"It’s not like everybody that used to be around me are not still friends and not… you know. I’ve set everybody up financially," he said.

Davido encourages those close to him to develop skills and add value to his brand. He wants them to do more than just hang around.

"If you’re around me, get something to do. What business do you want to do? Oh, you want to open a shop for your wife’s spot? Okay. How much? You take this," he said.

He also rewards people who bring business deals to him, no matter how big or small the deal is.

"If you bring a deal for me, I’ll let you get your 10%. I don’t care if it’s $4m. You get your 10% if you brought the deal," he said.

Davido explained that this new way of thinking has changed how he makes music. He said his latest project involved fewer people compared to his earlier works.

"Normally, recorded 10 people in the studio. We’re drinking. You know how it is, like party vibe. But with this record, because of my situation, like I can’t be having 100 people at the crib," he said.

Now, he likes to work with those who directly contribute to his career and creative process.

"When it’s time to work, we got to get to it," he said.

Davido also mentioned that respect is a big must for anyone around him. He does not put up with people who treat others badly.

"Respect. Definitely. Like when I see somebody acting out of character, respect to people. Respect a woman. Respect in general," he said.

The Unavailable crooner said his upbringing influenced how he treats others. His family taught him to value respect, sharing and caring for people.

"I was brought up to take care of people as well," he said.

Davido, who recently finished a 53-show world tour, said he is focused on building his legacy while continuing to grow as an artist.
