Wike says Fubara did nothing wrong

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, said Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, did nothing wrong after reconciling with his political group. He stated, "there is no sin in politics."

Wike mentioned that Fubara’s choice to reconnect with the political family that raised him was a good move. He believes it will help gather support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Wike spoke on Tuesday while meeting with journalists after checking ongoing road projects in the Federal Capital Territory. His comments came a few days after Fubara publicly expressed support for Wike’s Rainbow Coalition, backed President Tinubu for a second term, and encouraged his supporters to join the coalition.

When asked if Fubara had been forgiven after their long political struggle, Wike dismissed the idea. He said, "I don’t know what you mean by sin. In politics, there is no sin. If someone realizes they made a mistake and decides to correct it, there is nothing wrong with that. Politics is not a sin. What matters is recognizing that you were on the wrong path and making the right decision."

Wike recalled predicting Fubara’s return during his last media chat. He said the governor had no choice but to go back to his political roots. "I said during my last media chat that he had no other choice but to return to the same political family that produced him. I have now been informed that he has made that declaration publicly, and we welcome him. Our doors are open. Everyone is welcome for us to work together. There is no better alternative. We will all work together to move the state forward," he explained.

The FCT minister added that Fubara’s public announcement of reconciliation would help President Tinubu’s re-election efforts. "He has publicly stated that he has returned to where he started, and we receive him with an open mind. There is nothing to hide. We will all work together to ensure that we deliver the votes President Tinubu needs for his re-election," he said.

Fubara, during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Rivien Medical Industry project in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State last week, announced he had returned to Wike’s political family. The governor backed the Rainbow Coalition, endorsed Tinubu for a second term, and asked his supporters to support all candidates of the coalition. He stated that the time for political conflict in the state was over and it was time to move forward.
