The Yobe State Police have arrested a woman and another person for allegedly killing her newborn daughter in Damaturu. They called the act a "heinous and inhuman act."

On Monday, Dungus Abdulkarim, the state Police Public Relations Officer, released a statement. He said the baby was allegedly strangled. After that, her body was hidden in a box and dumped behind a mosque in the Anguwar Boka area of Damaturu.

The police said their Violent Crime Response Unit acted quickly after receiving a distress call on Tuesday about the killing and hiding of the baby’s body.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that a female suspect, who recently gave birth to the baby, was allegedly involved in an incident where the child was strangled and the remains concealed in a box before being abandoned behind a mosque at Anguwar Boka area of Damaturu," the statement said.

The police noted that their swift action led to the arrest of two suspects. They are currently helping with the investigation.

"Following swift police action, two suspects were arrested and are currently assisting the investigation. The case remains under investigation as the Command continues to gather facts and ensure that justice is served," Abdulkarim said.

The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, spoke out against the incident. He emphasized that every child has the right to life, protection, and dignity under the law.

"The incident is a heinous and inhuman act. Every human life is precious and must be protected," Jibrin said. He warned that the police will not tolerate violence against children or other vulnerable people.

"The command will not tolerate any act of violence against children or any vulnerable person, and anyone found responsible will be prosecuted in accordance with the law," Jibrin added.

The police also reminded everyone that every child has rights and deserves care and protection. They warned that anyone who violates these rights will face serious consequences under the law.
