Boxing star Abdulahi Robiu stole the spotlight at the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame monthly show in May. He put on a great show at the Agege Stadium over the weekend, making it clear he is one to watch.

In the main fight for male 70KG, Robiu, a fighter from Possible Boxing Club in Yaba, outperformed Favour Eze. He won with a clear 5-0 unanimous decision.

Robiu, whose nickname is “Successful”, was very happy as the crowd cheered for him.

For him, this victory was more than just another win. It marked an important step in his career.

“I feel happy and so excited because I won this fight,” he said.

“I just want to thank all my fans and commend my coaches. This fight is a great day for me, and I’m enjoying it. I also want to thank the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame for always organising this every last Saturday of the month. We really appreciate this opportunity,” Robiu said.

The event featured 10 fights, including two exhibition bouts for both boys and girls. It was full of excitement and drama.

Lawal Ismail also impressed the crowd with a unanimous win in the male 75KG category against Ojichukwu Obi. Sarah Akinola narrowly defeated Adah Obi in a close female 70KG split decision.

Muiz Ogunshola fought hard to win against Ismailia Sanusi 3-2 in the male 65KG, while Abdulahi Adebayo showed skill and determination to beat Michael Jeremiah in another thrilling split decision.

In other matches, Quadri Obayemi beat Bright Majekodunmi in the male 55KG, and Owolabi Opeyemi dominated Kola Ogunsemore in the male 60KG. Daniel Daramola was declared the winner in the male 50KG after Habeeb Adebayo was disqualified.

For coaches like Abdulhakeem Yinus from AY Gold Boxing Club, the LBHF monthly show means more than just competition. It is a place where future champions are created.

“This platform is important at the grassroots level,” Yinus explained.

“With consistency, Lagos will produce boxers who can compete at the very top.”

The May event was the 146th LBHF monthly show. It continues a tradition that has become a regular event on the last Saturday of each month.
