A member of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, Tolu Bankole, has confirmed Senator Solomon Adeola, known as Yayi, as the party’s candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election.

Bankole, who is also the APC National Leader for Persons with Disabilities and a key player in the Ogun State chapter, said there is no change to Adeola’s candidacy. He dismissed any contrary claims as misinformation meant to create confusion in the party.

He made this statement in Abuja on Thursday. This clarification came two days after the APC reaffirmed Adeola as its candidate amid a court challenge to the party’s primary and a conflicting claim from another party member, Abayomi Hunye.

Bankole explained that Adeola emerged from the APC primary held according to the Constitution, the Electoral Act, and the party’s rules.

He said, “Following that transparent and democratic process, the name of Senator Adeola and that of his running mate have been duly forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission as the APC candidates for the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.

“Yayi is highly qualified by all standards to govern Ogun State. He has the necessary constitutional qualifications, legislative experience, administrative skills, and political determination to lead our state for the next eight years.

“His record of service at the National Assembly, deep understanding of governance, and commitment to people-focused development make him well-equipped to be the next Governor of our beloved state.”

Bankole urged APC members and residents in Ogun to ignore what he called fake news and focus on strengthening the party for the 2027 election.

He said, “As stakeholders, we are sure that nothing will stop this mandate. The wishes of party members expressed during the primaries must be respected and supported.

“I appeal to all members of our great party, the APC, and to the good people and voters of Ogun State to ignore the fake news and distractions being spread by desperate individuals. Our focus must remain on unity, grassroots mobilization, and early preparation. When the campaign begins, we must rally to support Yayi and ensure a great win for the APC.”

The APC had also previously reaffirmed Adeola as its candidate and referred to Hunye as an impostor. The party, in a statement signed by its National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, noted that Hunye was suspended from the APC on April 7, 2026, after a petition from his ward, Tube Ward, in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.

In addition, Bankole mentioned that Adeola’s proposed agenda matches President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda. He stated, “With Senator Adeola as governor, Ogun State will see the next level of shared prosperity. His plans for infrastructure, industrial growth, youth empowerment, agricultural transformation, and inclusive governance align perfectly with the Renewed Hope vision of President Bola Tinubu.

“The APC in Ogun State is one united family under the leadership of our national and state structures. We will not let divisive agents stop the progress we have begun. Let it be clear: Yayi is the APC 2027 Ogun State Governorship Candidate.
