ARISE News has stopped political analyst Anthony Kila from appearing on its channel and other platforms. They cited "unanswered questions" about his academic credentials as raised by an investigation from PREMIUM TIMES.
The television network announced this decision in a statement on its Facebook page on Tuesday. They said they would no longer have Mr Kila on their programs.
This decision followed an investigative report by PREMIUM TIMES that questioned Mr Kila’s academic qualifications and led the network to seek an explanation from him.
According to ARISE News, they reached out to Mr Kila on 3 October 2026 with their findings. He asked for more time to respond, but he had not replied ten days later, the network said.
“Instead the allegations have gotten worse,” ARISE News said, without detailing the new allegations in their statement.
“In the circumstances, we find that his contributions to The ARISE News Channel is no longer tenable,” the network added.
They mentioned that they were unaware of the allegations when Mr Kila appeared on their programs as a freelance political analyst. They emphasized that they take issues of credibility and integrity seriously.
The network noted the findings of the PREMIUM TIMES investigation and said they would not feature Mr Kila on their platforms “at any time now or in future,” effective immediately.
This announcement from the network came just three days after PREMIUM TIMES published a follow-up investigation on 10 October. This report highlighted discrepancies in Mr Kila’s claimed academic qualifications, from his bachelor’s degree to his doctorate.
In its initial investigation published on 3 October, PREMIUM TIMES found no proof that a recognized academic institution awarded Mr Kila the professorial title he has used for years. The report also raised doubts about his academic profiles on the websites of Michael and Cecilia Ibru University and the Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies.
The revelations have led to actions beyond the television network. Michael and Cecilia Ibru University in Delta State, where Mr Kila was pro-chancellor from August 2025, asked him to step aside pending an investigation into his professorial status. The university mentioned its commitment to academic integrity and proper governance.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has also constituted a team to look into the allegations against Mr Kila and see if the university gained from his actions.
In a response previously reported by PREMIUM TIMES, Mr Kila said he was gathering his academic and professional documents and reaching out to the institutions involved. ARISE Television’s statement on Tuesday said he had not responded to the allegations they sent him on 3 October.
