Army to Keep Fighting Separatists in South-east, GOC

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Oluremi Fadairo, has said the division will keep up strong military actions against separatist groups in the South-east.

Major-General Fadairo, who leads the Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA, stated that the division will continue to deal firmly with criminals who are disturbing peace and security in the South-east.

He made this known while speaking to participants of Army War College Nigeria Course 10/2026 during their visit to Headquarters 82 Division in Enugu on Monday.

This visit is an important part of their course, which started on 3 September and ended on 6 September.

Mr Fadairo pointed out that the security situation in the division’s area is stable and under control.

He explained that this stability is due to the efforts of troops who are reducing the power of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Eastern Security Network, and other criminal groups.

He noted that ongoing intelligence-led operations, active patrols, and targeted missions have destroyed criminal hideouts and disrupted their activities, making it hard for them to operate in the region.

The GOC mentioned the successes achieved by troops in stabilising the South-east.

He said that regular assessments, using intelligence, and being flexible in security responses are key to getting rid of any remaining threats.

He urged the participants to use the knowledge and insights from the visit to create new and lasting strategies to tackle today's security problems in the country.

Mr Fadairo also stressed that security forces need to stay proactive, use intelligence, and focus on protecting lives and property, while making sure criminals do not get any chance to establish themselves.

He announced that plans are in place for more operations during the dry season under Operation EASTERN SANITY II, focusing on keeping pressure on criminals and stopping them from coming back.

“The armed forces will keep using lawful and strong measures against those whose actions threaten national security,” he said.

The GOC added that the division will continue to work closely with other security agencies and important partners.
