Arokodare heads to Ajax for medical check-up

Wolves striker Tolu Arokodare is set to join Ajax on loan. He will have a medical in the Netherlands today, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

The Nigerian forward has been linked with a move away from Molineux after Wolverhampton Wanderers got relegated from the Premier League. Last week, reports suggested he had a clash during training after being told he would not join a first-team session due to ongoing transfer talks.

Arokodare denied those reports, saying he was just doing his job as per his contract.

He joined Wolves from Belgian club Genk for £24 million last summer. His first season was tough, as he only scored six goals in 38 matches during the 2025/26 season.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said Ajax has reached an agreement with Wolves for a season-long loan deal. This deal includes an option to buy.

It is unclear if the buy option is optional or mandatory. The deal is reported to be worth €20 million (£17.1 million).

Ajax sees the 25-year-old Arokodare as an important signing. Their new coach, Michel, wants to bring Ajax back to the top of the Eredivisie.

Buchi Laba, a Nigerian broadcaster and transfer expert, also said Arokodare is excited about the move. Ajax showed interest in him before he joined Wolves last year.

Arokodare has turned down an offer from Turkish club Trabzonspor. Clubs in Italy like Fiorentina and Genoa also could not agree with Wolves.

Wolves wanted at least £18 million for Arokodare to avoid a financial loss. He signed a four-year contract last summer.

Despite scoring just six goals for Wolves, Ajax is hopeful because of his impressive record at Genk. He netted 41 goals and made 12 assists in 113 appearances there. His best season was in 2024/25 when he scored 23 goals for the Belgian side.
