Badejo-Okusanya wins NBA presidency, other national officers elected

Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has won the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) presidential election.

Mrs Badejo-Okusanya, the only woman among the three presidential candidates, received 12,317 votes. The election took place through electronic voting for 24 hours, starting from 7:35 a.m. on Saturday to 7:34 a.m. on Sunday.

She defeated her two male opponents, getting 47.18 percent of the 26,106 votes cast. This was confirmed by the final tally on the Live Election Results dashboard from the Electoral Committee of the NBA (ECNBA).

Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, came second with 7,934 votes, which is 30.39 percent. Olumuyiwa Akinboro, another SAN, finished third with 5,855 votes, or 22.43 percent.

Turnout for the elections was low. Only 26,184 voters participated, which is just 31.86 percent of the total 82,172 registered voters. The ECNBA has not yet officially announced the overall results.

First Vice President

In the First Vice President election, a total of 24,579 votes were cast. Oghenero Okoro won with 11,024 votes, which is 44.85 percent. Luqman Adekunle Laoye came second with 7,044 votes (28.66 percent), while Obajaja Onimisi Stephen got 6,511 votes (26.49 percent) for third place.

Second Vice President

Egya Nuhu John was the sole candidate for Second Vice President. He received all 18,496 votes cast, making him the winner.

Third Vice President

Pepple Irene also ran unopposed for the Third Vice President position and won with 19,200 votes.

General Secretary

In the General Secretary election, 25,245 votes were cast. Afam O. Okeke won with 8,478 votes, which is 33.58 percent. Rapulu Ernest Nduka received 6,188 votes (24.51 percent) for second place. Chidi Ezenwafor got 4,560 votes (18.06 percent) for third, followed by Nnaebuka Nwaeze with 1,147 votes (4.54 percent) and Barth Okoye-Anichie with 772 votes (3.06 percent).

Assistant General Secretary

For the Assistant General Secretary position, 25,214 votes were cast. Aghogho Gladys Okpomor won with 14,312 votes (56.76 percent). Osato Uwagboe came second with 5,003 votes (19.84 percent), and Tijjani Magaji finished third with 3,282 votes (13.02 percent).

Treasurer

Esther Ifeoma Jimoh was the sole candidate for Treasurer and won with all 21,908 votes.

Welfare Secretary

In the Welfare Secretary election, 24,674 votes were cast. Audrey Chinelo Ofoegbunam won with 14,911 votes (60.43 percent). Oaikhena Osagie got 5,187 votes (21.02 percent) for second place, while Akinwunmi Laleye received 2,234 votes (9.05 percent) for third.

Publicity Secretary

The Publicity Secretary election saw 23,707 votes cast. Prince I. Azubuike won with 14,686 votes (61.95 percent), while Lawrence Shegun Ayewa came second with 9,021 votes (38.85 percent).

Assistant Publicity Secretary

In the Assistant Publicity Secretary role, 24,722 votes were cast. Uwomano Anthony Junior Aki won with 6,108 votes (24.71 percent). Hadiza Nasir Ahmad came second with 10,094 votes (40.83 percent).

General Council of the Bar member (Eastern Zone)

For the Eastern Zone, 60,592 votes were cast. Chidi Betsy Nnaji won with 10,497 votes (17.32 percent). Daniel Kip got 8,121 votes (13.40 percent) for second place.

General Council of the Bar member (Western Zone)

In the Western Zone, 34,323 votes were cast. Rotimi Komolafe won with 14,816 votes (43.17 percent).

General Council of the Bar member (Northern Zone)

For the Northern Zone, 58,175 votes were cast. Huwaila Muhammad Ibrahim won with 13,327 votes (22.91 percent). Friday O. Enejor came second with 10,442 votes (17.95 percent).
