Actor Victory Micheal, also known as Big Mike, is excited about his dream of having an international acting career. He recently got a Best International Actor nomination at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Micheal earned this nomination for his role in the movie ‘Unboxing Love’. This is his first award nomination and his first time getting international attention since he started in the film industry.
In a statement shared with Saturday Beats, Micheal called this nomination a big moment in his career. “This is my first ever nomination and I’m so blessed. I feel so grateful that my first nomination is an international nomination that carries so much weight,” he said.
He mentioned that he is the only Nigerian up for the Best International Actor award. He will be competing against actors from the United States, Canada, and Japan. “Somehow they found me worthy to be nominated among other international actors. It feels so good and it’s a major milestone for me because I’ve always dreamt of going beyond Nollywood,” he added.
The nomination comes just before the movie’s premiere. ‘Unboxing Love’ was filmed last year and will debut during TIFF, which runs from September 4 to 12.
Micheal shared that his love for acting started in secondary school at Assemblies of God Bethel Seminary in Owerri, Imo State. He joined the school's drama group and often performed in church plays.
Even though his family wanted him to study medicine or engineering, he chose to follow his passion for acting. “My dream has always been to go more international. I’m hoping this is the first step to achieving international recognition and building an international career,” he said.
