British International School has emerged as the overall champion of the Private School Games 2026 Under-14 Championship. They led the medal table with 17 gold, nine silver, and eight bronze medals.

The four-day event ended on Saturday and took place at the school’s campus on Landbridge Avenue, Oniru Private Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos. Young athletes from private schools across Lagos and other areas came together for the competition, which included various sports like football.

Green Springs School came second, winning nine gold, seven silver, and nine bronze medals. Corona Schools took third place with five gold, eight silver, and ten bronze medals. Lagos Preparatory School secured fourth position with three gold, four silver, and two bronze medals.

White Sands School finished fifth with one gold, three silver, and one bronze medal. RC placed sixth with one gold and one bronze. Temple School took seventh place with three silver and six bronze medals, while Meadow Hall came in eighth with one bronze.

Egbeoluwa Adeyemi, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of School Games Limited, mentioned that the competition aims to discover, nurture, and develop sporting talents in private schools. He noted that there are currently 14 schools participating and that they hope to connect standout athletes with organizations like the Lagos State Sports Commission and national federations. This can create pathways for them to represent at state, national, and international levels.

"14 schools currently take part in this competition, and we hope to connect standout athletes with bodies such as the Lagos State Sports Commission and national federations, creating pathways to state, national and international representation," he said.

Adeyemi emphasized that sports teach children discipline, teamwork, and tolerance. He urged for more support for young talents in private schools.

Mrs. Tinuade Olufolabi, Principal of Maple Canadian College, which sponsored the event, called the championship an important platform for young athletes. "Private school sports programmes need more funding and institutional support. We can see these kids are good with the standard of football that they displayed on the opening day, so they just need more support," she said.

Olufolabi also mentioned that the college, established in 2019, offers the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. This diploma helps students gain admission to universities in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Australia.

A parent from Corona School, Mr. Ejiro Aghomi, praised the athletes and coaches for their performance in the hot weather. Another parent, Mrs. Reri Oseigbu, appreciated the organisers but suggested improvements in scheduling and registration. She also recommended adding a scoreboard to help spectators follow the results.

Representatives from sponsors 7:15 Capital, Nene Ekpo, and the Tokunbo Orimobi Foundation, Nengi Pepple, praised the athletes’ talent and expressed their willingness to support future editions.
