The Confederation of African Football has started looking for a new Secretary-General. This comes less than four months after they made Nigerian football official Samson Adamu the Acting Secretary-General. The PUNCH reports this news.

CAF has put out a job listing for the top administrative role on its official website. They are inviting qualified people to apply for a job that manages the daily activities of African football's governing body.

The deadline for applications is July 10, 2026.

Adamu took up the Acting Secretary-General position in March. He stepped in after Swiss-Congolese Véron Mosengo-Omba resigned. Mosengo-Omba left amid growing concerns about his leadership, especially surrounding the Africa Cup of Nations final.

Before becoming Acting Secretary-General, Adamu was CAF’s Director of Competitions and Events. He helped organize the Africa Cup of Nations, inter-club competitions, and other tournaments across the continent. His new role makes him the first Nigerian to hold this position, even if only acting.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe has shown confidence in Adamu. He encouraged Adamu to apply for the permanent role as the confederation started its formal recruitment process.

Starting this recruitment means Adamu will have to compete with other candidates if he chooses to apply. If he does apply and wins, Adamu would be the first permanent Secretary-General from Nigeria, having already made history as the first Nigerian in an acting role.

The job description states that the Secretary-General will need to implement decisions made by the CAF General Assembly and Executive Committee. They will manage the organization’s administration, supervise staff, handle legal and financial operations, and maintain relationships with member associations, FIFA, and other partners.

CAF also said the successful candidate would lead the organization’s strategic planning. They must ensure compliance with governance standards, coordinate major competitions, and drive changes across its 54 member associations.

To apply, candidates need a university degree and at least ten years of experience in senior executive management. Strong leadership and communication skills are a must. Fluency in English or French is required, and knowing the other language is a plus. Experience in international sports administration is also recommended.
