Carrick and Fernandes Talk Things Over After Bournemouth Loss

Michael Carrick and Bruno Fernandes have met to sort out their issues after Manchester United lost 3-0 at home to Bournemouth. Fernandes stayed on the bench for the whole match, raising questions about team dynamics.

The meeting took place at United’s Carrington training ground on Tuesday. Both Carrick and Fernandes want to move past their recent tensions and focus on getting better results for the team.

Fabrizio Romano shared on X on Wednesday that the talks went well. Carrick and Fernandes are ready to work together as pressure builds over United’s recent performances.

Romano posted: “Michael Carrick and captain Bruno Fernandes have met face-to-face to clear the air after the Portuguese star was benched for 90 minutes against Bournemouth. Bruno is now expected to play against Chelsea on Saturday.”

Recent Criticism

This meeting follows Fernandes’ public criticism of the team’s tactics after United lost 4-1 to Como in the Champions League. He questioned why the coaching staff did not use a man-to-man pressing strategy, saying it let Como find spaces and gain confidence during the game.

Fernandes also pointed out that the team needs to show more bravery when under pressure. His comments drew more attention after Carrick left him out of the starting eleven for the Bournemouth match and did not bring him on as a substitute, even as United struggled.

Harry Maguire took over as captain in Fernandes’ absence during the match.

Pressure on Carrick

United’s poor results have put more pressure on Carrick. The team has not won in eight matches across all competitions. The 3-0 loss to Bournemouth came after the heavy 4-1 defeat to Como, increasing doubts about Carrick’s future.

Having Fernandes back in the squad could give United a needed boost before they face Chelsea on Saturday, October 31. The Portugal international has been a key player for the team, and his presence could help as they look to improve their performance and take some pressure off Carrick.

Yet, while the talks suggest that Carrick and Fernandes are ready to move on, United must show they can make progress on the field as they prepare for a tough away game against Chelsea.
