Ijebu sons and daughters gathered again in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, on Saturday for the 2026 Ojude Oba Festival. They came dressed in beautiful outfits, showcasing their rich culture.

The festival, sponsored by First City Monument Bank (FCMB), attracted many visitors. It was a vibrant display of art, color, and community spirit.

Ijebus, known as ‘omo alares’, showed their love for their late monarch, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona. Even though he has passed on, his memory remains alive in their hearts.

The people celebrated with all the traditional processes of the festival that the late king had worked hard to elevate. They honored his legacy by making the event special, something everyone now looks up to.

Exciting Masquerades and Horse-Riding

A Yoruba proverb says, ‘Eegunomode nii koko jo ki t’agba to jo’, meaning the young masquerades perform before their elders. But at the Ojude Oba Festival, things were different. The older Regberegbe age grades dazzled the audience first, leading the colorful parade that is the heart of the festival.

These senior participants have been part of the festival for many years. Their excitement and energy matched that of the younger groups, who later took their turns, showcasing their talents in a friendly competition. The horse-riding families brought extra excitement in the afternoon with their impressive dance moves and playful gunshots.

At the end of the festival, Egbe Bobakeye won in the male category, while Egbe Arobayo Obinrin Precious took the female category. The Balogun Kuku Family won the horse-riding contest.

Stars and Cultural Icons Shine

The festival was also graced by celebrities like Nollywood stars Eniola Badmus, Adeniyi Johnson, Mercy Aigbe, Femi Branch, Idowu Phillips, aka Mama Rainbow, and Dayo Amusa.

Waka Queen Salawa Abeni and content creator Samuel Banks were part of the celebration. Farooq Oreagba, known for his stylish entrance on horseback, added to the glamour of the event with his impressive outfit and charm.

FCMB’s Strong Support for Ojude Oba

Farooq Oreagba's presence was significant. He is a cultural ambassador for FCMB, the main sponsor of the festival. The bank made its mark with its bright purple and yellow branding visible throughout the festival grounds.

FCMB set up an elegant pavilion and provided gifts to the traditional rulers during the parade. The bank's financial support played a big part in the success of the festival, benefiting Ijebu-Ode and Nigeria as a whole.

Remembering Oba Adetona’s Legacy

At the festival, Ladi Balogun, the Group Chief Executive of FCMB, shared a goodwill message. He highlighted the importance of the event and praised the Regent, Acting Awujale, Olorogun Sonny Folorunsho Kuku, for his leadership.

Balogun expressed pride in celebrating the 2026 edition of the festival, honoring Oba Adetona. He said, “This year’s festival holds special significance as we honour the legacy of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, CFR, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, whose passing in 2025 marked the end of one of the most consequential royal reigns in Nigeria’s history.”

He spoke about how Oba Adetona promoted education, unity, and responsible leadership while preserving tradition and preparing future generations.

Cultural Celebration and Economic Growth

Balogun also mentioned FCMB's long-standing support for the Ojude Oba Festival. He said, “For over 20 years, FCMB has remained a committed partner of the Ojude Oba Festival. Our support amplifies a longstanding belief in the importance of preserving heritage, strengthening communities, and creating opportunities for inclusive and sustainable growth.”

He noted that Ojude Oba is not just a cultural celebration but also a driver of economic activity. The festival supports livelihoods and community values.

The festival showcased stunning Yoruba fashion, including aso oke, aran, ankara, and adire, alongside beautiful damask and lace fabrics. It was a colorful display of style and tradition.

Music and Commerce at the Festival

Musiliu Haruna Ishola entertained the crowd throughout the day. His music, covering various themes, kept people dancing and enjoying the moment.

He praised dignitaries like Governor Dapo Abiodun, whose birthday coincided with the festival, and other notable figures. The festival also allowed locals to sell their products, creating a lively marketplace atmosphere.
