SportyTV is set to reach one billion views on its YouTube channel and social media platforms before the 2026 FIFA World Cup ends. This shows how important digital platforms are for sports broadcasting in Africa.

The broadcaster shared this news in a statement on Wednesday. It pointed out that audience engagement has increased during the ongoing World Cup. SportyTV has broadcast and streaming rights in many African countries.

The company got the rights to show the tournament in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa. This lets viewers in Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya watch 34 matches for free. In South Africa, subscribers can watch all 104 matches for a fee they call affordable. The World Cup final will be available to viewers in all four countries.

SportyTV said this wider access has led to a big increase in its digital platform growth.

The broadcaster reported over 920 million views on YouTube and its social media channels ahead of the final match. This puts them on track to go beyond one billion views.

Their YouTube channel alone has more than 70 million views, 18 million watch hours, and over 10 million unique viewers during the tournament.

The World Cup game between England and Argentina has been the most-watched match so far. It got nearly two million views from Nigeria alone.

On TikTok, SportyTV's World Cup content has over 320 million views and 17 million likes, along with about 400,000 new followers. Facebook also saw over 320 million views and nine million interactions. Instagram added nearly 175 million views.

Together, Facebook and Instagram reached more than 100 million accounts during the tournament.

SportyTV also mentioned that its mobile app has crossed 10 million downloads. More than 15 percent of those happened during the World Cup.

The broadcaster said this growth comes from the rising demand for digital sports content and interactive fan engagement.

Elias Gallego, Vice President of Business Development, Marketing and Media at Sporty Group, said, "Our goal wasn’t simply to broadcast matches, but to create an experience that allowed people to watch, engage, and stay connected to the tournament wherever they were. The momentum we’ve seen throughout the competition reflects not only the passion for football across Africa but also the growing demand for a more accessible approach to sports broadcasting. We believe that’s where the future of the industry is headed, and we’re proud to be helping shape that future."

The company added that its World Cup coverage has mixed live match broadcasts with studio analysis, highlights, creator collaborations, and social media content to keep audiences engaged.

One of its studio clips got more than 18 million views. Their YouTube membership community attracted subscribers from Africa and beyond.

The broadcaster also worked with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), and Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) during the tournament. They called this partnership part of their effort to widen access to World Cup coverage.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup final is set for Sunday, 19 July. SportyTV expects audience numbers to grow even more as fans watch the last match of the tournament.
