SportyTV is on track to reach one billion views on its YouTube channel and social media before the end of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This shows how digital platforms are playing a bigger role in sports broadcasting across Africa.

The broadcaster shared this news in a statement on Wednesday. They noted that audience engagement has increased during the ongoing World Cup. SportyTV has the rights to show matches in several African countries.

The company secured the rights to broadcast the tournament in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa. Viewers in Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya can watch 34 matches for free. In South Africa, subscribers can watch all 104 matches for a low fee. The World Cup final will be available in all four countries.

SportyTV mentioned that this wider access has led to major growth on its digital platforms.

So far, the company has recorded over 920 million views across YouTube and social media. This puts them on track to exceed one billion views before the tournament ends.

Their YouTube channel alone has seen over 70 million views, 18 million watch hours, and more than 10 million unique viewers during the tournament.

According to SportyTV, the World Cup match between England and Argentina is currently their most-watched match, pulling in nearly two million views from Nigeria alone.

On TikTok, SportyTV said its World Cup content has generated over 320 million views and 17 million likes, along with about 400,000 new followers. Facebook has also seen over 320 million views and nine million interactions, while Instagram has added nearly 175 million views.

Combined, Facebook and Instagram reached more than 100 million accounts during the tournament.

SportyTV also stated that its mobile app has passed 10 million downloads. More than 15 percent of these downloads happened during the World Cup.

The broadcaster believes this growth comes from the rising interest in digital sports content and how fans want to engage with it.

Elias Gallego, Vice President of Business Development, Marketing and Media at Sporty Group, said, "Our goal wasn’t simply to broadcast matches, but to create an experience that allowed people to watch, engage, and stay connected to the tournament wherever they were. The momentum we’ve seen throughout the competition reflects not only the passion for football across Africa but also the growing demand for a more accessible approach to sports broadcasting. We believe that’s where the future of the industry is headed, and we’re proud to be helping shape that future."

SportyTV said their World Cup coverage combines live match broadcasts with studio analysis, highlights, creator collaborations, and social media content to keep fans engaged.

One of their studio clips has received over 18 million views. Their YouTube membership community has attracted subscribers from Africa and beyond.

The broadcaster has also partnered with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), and Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) during the tournament. They see this as a way to improve access to World Cup coverage.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup final is set for Sunday, 19 July. SportyTV expects more viewers as fans get ready for the final match.
